Summary

It has been demonstrated in animal experiments that in acute alcohol intoxication insulin does not affect the elimination of alcohol from the organism. Carbutamide and 2 desoxy-d-glucose do not have a similar effect either (2 ml aethylalcohol per kg body weight intraperitoneally). Based on these observations no close correlation between alcohol breakdown and carbohydrate metabolism can be assumed. Administration of insulin in acute alcohol intoxication does not seem to be justified.
