Abstract
This paper describes a complex pattern of rehabilitation center services designed to facilitate the transition of the ex-mental patient from the hospital to the community. Emphasis is placed on the importance of work and work adjustment as therapeutic instrumentalities, and on the kinds of ex-mental patients that require and benefit from vocationally-oriented, comprehensive rehabilitation programs. Some underlying principles of a model program are discussed, together with ways of implementing these principles.
