Summary
A novel kinetic technique is employed to calculate the active biofilm surface area of biomass supports, inestimable directly, utilizing the phosphatase activity of a uranium-accumulating biofilm-immobilizedCitrobacter sp. within a plug flow reactor. Two calculation methods evaluate support suitability in situ and will provide a ‘handle’ to calculate enzyme activity in the immobilized cells.
