Summary
Haemobartonella and Splenomegaly in the Common vole (Microtus agrestis)
Splenomegaly was correlated with the occurence of Haemobartonella (haemoparasitic microorganisms) in the Common Vole in the peak year 1972 of a gradation of this species in forest plantations near Munich. Heamobartonella seemed to be of some importance in the succession of various antagonists and had some influence to the population dynamics of this vole. Bartonellosis and splenomegaly arose suddenly in the voles in June 1972 in the wheigt class of 20–25 gramms. Males were much more and havier infested than females (Tab. 1). The death of the older over-wintered generation, the changes of sex ratio and the break down of the population in the following year was observed with the incidence of the disease in correlation with stress and further antagonists (Abb. 2).
