Abstract
Efficiency and resorption of the Ethisorb-plug were investigated in 15 patients who received a total hip arthroplasty. The Ethisorb-plug consists of a combination of the resorbable materials polyglactin 910 (Vicryl) and The Ethisorb-plug consists of a combination of the resorbable materials polyglactin 910 (Vicryl) and Polydioxanon (PDS).
The plug can be inserted fast and simply. It did not prevent the appearance of bubbles in the cement cone below the prosthesis. In the CT-study occurred a clear decrease of density in the plug region after 9.3 months. In addition MRI scans were taken from 2 patients postoperatively and after 12 months. The Ethisorb-plug still differed from fat marrow after 1 year. We did not see any dislocation or failure of the inserted plug. No adverse events occurred in the small group of patients.
These results indicate, that the Ethisorb-plug provides a sufficient occlusion of the femoral canal.
