Alterations of soft PVC-film in the intestinal canal

Summary

After a several-week stay of a soft PVC-plastic film in the intestinal canal, alterations in the content of softener resulted in a stiffening of the film and a perforation of the small intestine occurred. Under these conditions the swallowing of plastic films, being per se atoxic, may be harmful to health.

Zusammenfassung

Nach mehrwöchigem Aufenthalt einer PVC-Weichkunststoffolie im Darmkanal kam es infolge Veränderungen des Weichmachergehaltes zu einer Versteifung der Folie und Perforation des Dünndarmes. Unter solchen Umständen kann das Verschlucken von Kunststoffolien, die an sich atoxisch sind, gesundheitliche Schäden zur Folge haben.
