Summary
Secretin was infused in Aorta abdom., V. cava inf., branches of Artt. and Vv. mesentericae sup. on rabbits, anesthetized by urethane-chloralose; simultaneously blood-pressure was measured in these vessels. In most experiments pressure remained unchanged; only about 14% of intravasal infusions showed a change of blood-pressure, there was always a depression of blood-pressure. The fact that infusion of Secretin into branches of Artt. and Vv. mesentericae sup. in those cases does not only lead to a depression of blood-pressure in the adjoining vessels but also in Aorta abdom. shows its effect on the circulation of whole body.
With infusion of Secretin at a dosis of 8 U/kg into the lumen of duodenum and jejunum solely the application into the jejunum developed a lowering of bloodpressure in the examined vessels.
As the time-intervall from application of Secretin to the beginning of depression of the blood-pressure is relatively long, the question was discussed whether the circulatory effectiveness of Secretin would be the result of a structural metabolising process and not of the intact hormon itself.
