The toxic effects of human serum on Ehrlich ascites tumour cells inin vitro culture

  • Published:
Research in Experimental Medicine

Summary

Serum from different categories of donors has toxic effect on murine Ehrlich ascites tumour cells inin vitro cultures. The quantitative toxic effect of each serum category is, however, different, as summarized in points A—F of the introduction.

Notably an increased toxicity is found in women with gynaecological disease, not only carcinoma, but also simple inflammatory conditions. This may indicate that the approach to the phenomenon of carcinoma patient serum toxicity should be modified.

The relationship of toxic effect with blood group of donor is also considered.

A brief review is given of different authors' findings and opinions under the headings of agreement and conflict.
