The exact image theory for the Sommerfeld halfspace problem recently introduced by the present authors is applied for overhead transmission line calculation. Well behaved integrals are derived for the electromagnetic fields induced by the sinusoidal 50 Hz current. Limiting expressions valid for small distances are presented, and the ranges of validity are discussed for these approximations as well as for the well-known dipole at complex depth approximation and a demonstration comparing these with the exact results is given.
