Abstract
The state of our knowledge today of the problems of jointing is very unsatisfactory. No clear explanation exists for the origin of joints. Observations available indicate, however, the importance of these phenomena for the morphology and for the distribution of mineralization in the earth's crust. The dependence of the surface features on jointing and on mineralization is indicated and examples of a close relationship of the great circles with jointing, morphology and the distribution of deposits of nickel, platinum, tin and diamonds are described. The paper deals essentially with Africa.
