Summary

The authors describe two cases of retroperitoneal and apparently venous haemorrages following operation for a prolapsed lumbar intervertebral disc which did not necessitate an operation by a vascular surgeon. There is a review which summarises on the basis of the previously reported cases all the questions which bear on this problem. There is a special reference to the previously neglected medico-legal questions.
