Zusammenfassung

Die drei großen geologischen Einheiten der Schottischen Hochlande — der Block des Hebridenkratons im Nordwesten, die Zone der kaledonischen Überschiebungen und das Gebiet der kaledonischen Geosynklinale mit den Sedimenten der Moine Series und des Dalradian — sind weiterhin Gegenstand zahlreicher tektonischer, petrographischer, stratigraphischer und sedimentologischer Untersuchungen gewesen. Besonders hervorzuheben sind die Aufgliederung des „Lewisian“ durch zwei metamorphe Zyklen, die tektonischen Arbeiten im Bereich der Überschiebungszone, die eine Unzahl noch ungeklärter Fragen aufwerfen, und stratigraphisch-sedimentologische Untersuchungen in Moine und Dalradian. Eingehende Arbeiten sind dem Problem der „Lewisian Inliers“ gewidmet, die in einigen Fällen als hochmetamorphe Äquivalente der Moine Series nachgewiesen werden konnten.
