Epithelial lesions of the stomach induced in guinea pigs by intramural implantation of 3-methylcholanthrene

Zeitschrift für Krebsforschung Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A single dose of 3 mg. of crystallized 3-methylcholanthrene was implanted into the ventral wall of the gastric antrum of guinea pigs (21 males, 20 females). Diverticula were observed in 12 cases; they were located either in the submucosa or muscularis propria, were usually well circumscribed and showed regular glands and orderly epithelial cells. In two of the diverticula, however, the glands grew into the surrounding tissues. In two other cases there was an infiltrative invasion by the epithelium. In addition, a gastric leiomyosarcoma was observed.
