Root compression syndrome S 1, simulated by a circumscribed plasmocytoma in the intervertebral disc

Summary

The development of a plasmocytoma focus located exclusively in the intervertebral disc has so far not been reported.

We were able to observe a 70 year-old patient in whom a root compression syndrome S 1 (right) was caused by a circumscribed plasmocytoma in the lumbo-sacral intervertebral disc; this simulated clinically and myelographically a disc prolapse. In spite of the laboratory indications of a myeloma, the diagnosis could only be definitively made by operation.

Zusammenfassung

Die Entwicklung eines Plasmocytomherdes ausschließlich in der Bandscheibe ist bis jetzt nicht mitgeteilt worden.

Wir konnten einen 70-jährigen Patienten beobachten, bei dem ein Wurzelkompressionssyndrom S 1 rechts durch ein umschriebenes Plasmozytom in der lumbosacralen Bandscheibe hervorgerufen wurde, das klinisch und myelographisch einen Diskusprolaps vortäuschte.

Trotz laborchemischer Hinweise auf ein Myelom konnte die Diagnose erst durch die Operation gesichert werden.
