Summary

The paper is concerned with various functional aspects of the peripheral nervous system, special attention being paid to electromyographic studies carried out before and after the therapeutic administration of cephacetrile to 15 patients undergoing continuous dialysis. The patients were suffering from various intercurrent infections (acute bronchitis, pneumonia, acute cystitis, post-operative infections, etc.), and the dosage of cephacetrile was 0.5–1 g daily. In the patients under review, in whom the functional stability of the peripheral nervous system was in jeopardy owing to the presence of uraemia, the administration of cephacetrile proved eminently suitable.
