Summary
When using cephalosporins in accident surgery the form of inflammation of the tissue, the mode of action of these antibiotics, and the development of resistance by hospital pathogens must all be taken into consideration. Furthermore, information on the diffusion of these antibiotics in tissue is required. For this purpose, the results of microbiological titer determinations are presented. These were measured using serum and tissue-extracts from infected patients and patients free of infection following i. v. doses of cephacetrile and cephalothin. Finally, our opinion on the use of cephalosporins in accident surgery is presented.
