Summary

The pedigree of hereditary potato-nose in two generations described byBenjamins andStibbe could be supplemented by the description of a patient with the deformity in the third generation. No explanation of this malformation, so complicated in its development, has actually been given byBenjamins andStibbe. The author believes that the possibility of an explanation has been found in the so-called “statusBonnevie” (The forming of blebs of cerebrospinal fluid which escapes from the medullary tube through the foramen anterius). It would be possible that the deformity of the nose arose as a consequence of one or moreblebs at the root of the nose of the embryo. In this way the malformations can be reduced to one anomaly in the development of the embryo. Then a hereditary predisposition must be accepted which manifests itself in the appearance of the blebs.

La généalogie décrite parBenjamins etStibbe avec une déformation du nez dans deux générations peut etre complétée par les données sur un malade souffrant de la même anomalie dans la génération suivante. On peut donc parler maintenant d'une qualité héréditaire dominante.Benjamins etStibbe n'ont pas encore donné une explication de cette déformation si compliquée dans son développement. L'auteur croit avoir trouvé une déclaration possible dans le “StatusBonnevie”: La formation d'ampoules (“blebs”)_causée par la sortie du liquide cérébrospinal à travers un foramen anterius et leur rétention sur l'ébauche du nez de l'embryon serait la cause de la malformation. De cette manière on peut reduire la malformation à un seul défaut du développement embryonal. En outre on doit accepter une tendance héréditaire à la formation de ces ampoules.
