Campbell, Carroll is responsible for the “polish” on my earliest professional publication: “Parochial Ministry, The Episcopal Church and Alcoholism,”Journal of Religion and Health Vol. XIV, No. 3(1975), pp. 192–3. He also encouraged me to resume my interests in the fine arts. As an expression of gratitude, my first contribution toPilgrimage, as Artistic Photography Editor (Summer, 1979) was a “sunset portrait” by Carroll. He was an excellent landscape photographer, appropriately proud of the black and white products of his darkroom.
