Summary

The importance of mycobacteria as immunological adjvants is discussed. The peculiarity of the mycobacterial adjuvant is based on the potency to enhance the production of circulating antibodies to an antigen and to induce the delayed type of sensitivity. Mycobacteria are highly useful for the „completion“ of water-in-oil-emulsions. The question is considered to which bacterial structures the adjuvant potency can be connected.
