Summary

The activities of Hyaluronidase,β-Glucuronidase andβ-Acetylglucosaminidase were measured in 260 human sere during pregnancy, post partum and in the umbilical cord serum. All three lysosomal enzymes increased with pregnancy and showed a decrease post partum. The enzyme activity in the umbilical cord showed that the enzymes could not pass the placenta. Source of the glycosaminoglycan-hydrolases and function for birth mechanism was discussed.
