Summary
Secretin inhibits basal acid secretion of the stomach as well as the acid secretion stimulated by pentagastrin, on the one hand, and stimulates the secretion of pepsinogen on the other. The influence of secretin on intracellular acid secretion induced by methylxanthine (theophylline) and on electrolyte and pepsinogen secretion was examined in 15 subjects.
Secretin significantly decreases the secretion of H+ ions and the concentration of H+, Cl− and K+ ions. Volume, quantities and concentration of sodium and pepsin continued to increase in significant manner. The influence of secretion on the stimulation path first messenger-target tissue-second messenger is discussed.
