Abstract

Anatomical and behavioural evidence is put forward that supports the view that the ‘spines’ of the neck of the potto are not used for abrasive or aggressive purposes but are part of a very sensitive tactile zone. It is claimed that the nuchal region is probably a tactile focus for peaceable interactions in this species.
