Summary
In view of the high surgical success rate in detecting parathyroid adenomas, angiography and selective venous sampling are only indicated in reoperative parathyroid surgery. Non-invasive techniques, however, may be applied prior to the primary exploration: ultrasonography is able to discover cervical parathyroid adenomas, computed tomography seems to be valuable for the demonstration of pathological glands in the anterior mediastinum.
