Conclusions

1. Root-type piles and ties should be used in the USSR.

2. Root-type piles can be recommended for the following purposes: a) reconstruction and repair of buildings and structures; b) making foundations in confined sites in towns; c) for constructing "cellular walls" (as supports) for trenches near existing buildings; d) for driving tunnels under existing buildings.

3. The experience of Italian builders in the use of ties to strengthen slopes, landslips, and retaining walls should be employed.

The Scientific-Research Institute of Foundation Beds and Underground Structures, in collaboration with the Principal Administration for Architectural Planning, Moscow, and the "Gidrospetsstroi" Association of the Ministry of Energy of the USSR, has planned definite measures to make use of the Italian experience.
