From the Editors. Starting this year, the Journal will include the new section "Outstanding Soviet Scientists and Engineers," with articles on the life and activities of prominent scientists and engineers in the field of soil mechanics, bases, and foundations.

This series will be commenced with articles about the founder of the Soviet school of soil mechanics Professor N. M. Gersevanov (on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death) and one of the founders of the Soviet school of engineering geology, Professor I. V. Popov, who died not long ago.

Subsequently, this series will be continued with articles about the activities of other scientists and specialists, including living persons.

In this connection, the readers of this journal are invited to participate in the preparation of this section, either by writing articles, or by sending their suggestions.
