Abstract

The paper gives the results of measurements carried out with wire gauzes in a tunnel 12×18 cm in the Aeronautical Research Institute in Letňany. The resistance coefficients of 5 gauzes of varying mesh were measured and the empirical dependence of the resistance coefficient on the velocity of the stream and the porosity of the gauze was found. Further, the attenuation of a stationary disturbance and the reduction of turbulence by the gauze for a large disturbance (30% of average velocity) and large intensity of turbulence (up to 20%) was measured. The results confirmed the validity of the relations of the theory of Taylor and Batchelor for disturbances and intensities of turbulence of the given magnitude.
