In Bd. IIA4a der math. Encyklopädie wiederholt (pag. 191) Herr Painlevé die oft gemachte Behauptung, dass mittelst Elimination und Differentiation jedes System von Differentialgleichungen sowohl durch eine einzige Differentialgleichung als auch durch ein Normalsystem von Differentialgleichungen erster Ordnung ersetzt werden kann. Die Einwendungen, die ich gegen diese Behauptung erhob, veranlasste Herrn B. zu obigem Versuche sie zu präcisieren.
