Abstract
It is shown that if the Mn3+ ion exhibits a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect, the corresponding contribution to the first anisotropy constantK 1 is very large and has a positive sign. The interaction of the Mn3+ ion with lattice imperfections markedly influences the value of the anisotropy constant. Qualitative explanation of the temperature dependence ofK 1 at low temperatures is given, taking these facts into account, and some conclusions concerning the state of the Mn3+ ion in the MnxFe3−x O4 systems are made.
