Evaluation of fast neutron reactor spectra with threshold detectors

Abstract

The paper discusses all methods published in the literature which are employed for evaluation of fast neutron spectra in a reactor by means of threshold detectors. Mathematical description of selected procedures is presented and the respective methods are tested on four spectra taken as models. Besides, the effect of the detector selection and of the detector number on the correctness of the resulting spectrum shape is studied in respective evaluation methods as well as the effect of errors of the detector absolute activities. Following threshold reactions were used:237Np(n, f),232Th(n, f),103Rh(n, n′)103Rh,115In(n, n′)115In,32S(n, p)32P,58Ni(n, p)58Co,27Al(n, p)27Mg,31P(n, p)31Si,56Fe(n, p)56Mn,28Si(n, p)28Al,24Mg(n, p)24Na,27Al(n, α)24Na. All calculations were carried out with the GIER computer.
