Abstract

We describe a five-year experience using vena caval access for haemodialysis utilizing the McIntosh double-lumen catheter. A description of the catheter, method of insertion and of its performance including complications in 88 patients is given.

The McIntosh catheter is a rapid, simple, effective and safe means of obtaining access for short-term haemodialysis.
