Midface retrusion

Abstract

Experience with 162 patients for whom a midface advancement was performed over the last 10 years is reported. The series includes cases of primary maxillary hypoplasia, post-cleft deformities, and major craniofacial anomalies. The indications and techniques applicable to each particular deformity are discussed and final results are analyzed. The overall facial esthetic concept is emphasized to ensure achievement of not only a good functional result, but also a pleasant appearance.

Résumé

On rapporte 10 années d'expérience de chirurgie correctrice sur 162 patients présentant un avancement de l'étage moyen de la face. Cette série comprend des cas d'hypoplasie maxillaire primaire, des séquelles de fentes labiopalatines et des anomalies craniofaciales majeures. Les indications et les techniques adaptées à chaque déformation sont discutées et les résultats analysés. Le concept d'esthétique faciale intervient pour assurer non seulement un résultat fonctionnel mais aussi un aspect agréable.

Resumen

Se informa la experiencia con 162 pacientes en quienes se realizó el avance de la porción media de la cara en el curso de los Últimos 10 años. La serie incluye casos de hipoplasia maxilar primaria, deformaciones posthendidura, y anomalías cráneofaciales mayores. Se discuten las indicaciones y técnicas aplicables a cada tipo particular de deformidad, y se analizan los resultados finales. Se hace énfasis sobre el concepto de la estética facial integral para asegurar el logro no sólo de un buen resultado funcional sino también de una apariencia agradable.
