(This is a poem about a Mayan structure in Tikal (Guatemala), built for a priesthood that had developed a calendrical system of extraordinary finesse. Tikal is relatively inaccessible and still very much in the grip of the jungle which threatens to obliterate various inscriptions before they can be deciphered.)
