Abstract

The thermodynamic lattice-stability conditions are used to derive the limiting stresses for Li, Na, and K. The limiting values for hydrostatic stress are found to be 0.1 times the shear modulus, while the limiting values for tangential stresses are less than 0.01 times the shear modulus.
