The uropygial gland secretion of the Heron(Ardea cinerea)

Summary

The uropygial lipids and triglycerides of the subcutaneous fat of young herons are analysed. The uropygial lipids are shown to be normal waxes and triglycerides which contain mainly normal short chain fatty acids. — The fatty acids from the depot fat are highly unsaturated according to the well known fatty acid patterns of fish nourishment.
