Summary

The in vitro activity of sisomicin, gentamicin and tobramycin was compared in a total of 492 strains of Staph. aureus, coagulase negative staphylococci, E.coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter cloacae, Serratia marcescens, Proteus mirabilis, indole positive Proteus spp., Proteus inconstans (Providencia) und Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Against Staphylococci, Klebsiella and Serratia activity of sisomicin was significantly higher. Gentamicin and sisomicin were more effective than tobramycin against E. coli. Tobramycin was significantly more effective than gentamicin and sisomicin against Pseudomonas. 25% of the isolated bacteria were highly resistant nosocomial strains. Among these six (= 1.5 %) could be inhibited by one or two of the tested aminoglycosides, Klebsiella and Serratia being sensitive to sisomicin and gentamicin but resistant to tobramycin. Two Pseudomonas strains were sensitive to tobramycin but resistant to sisomicin and gentamicin.
