Zusammenfassung

Die Sturztauchmanöver vom Meerespelikan (Pelecanus occidentalis) und vom Blaufußtölpel (Sula nebouxii) werden beschrieben und miteinander verglichen. Der Tölpel erreicht durch eine widerstandsarme Eintauchhaltung erheblich größere Tauchtiefen als der Pelikan. Seine Flügelkonstruktion erlaubt es ihm darüber hinaus, weite Nahrungssuchflüge über dem Meer durchzuführen. Der Tölpel erscheint durch seine Flugfähigkeit der besser an die Verhältnisse des Meeres angepaßte Vogel zu sein. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen Fluganpassung und geographischer Verbreitung wird diskutiert.

Summary

The booby dives deeper because his body-posture produces only few drag while plunging into the water. His wing-construction is good for long distance flight over the ocean. The booby seems to be better adapted to the conditions of live at sea by his flight-cabability as the pelican. A connection between flight-adaptations and geographical distribution is discussed.
