Acute gonorrhea treated with a single intramuscular dose of mezlocillin

Summary

151 patients with acute gonorrhea were included in the study. There were 137 cases of urethritis, seven cases of vulvovaginitis, six cases of pharyngitis and one case of proctitis. Five patients were given two i. m. injections of 1 g mezlocillin at an interval of 24 hours. The clinical symptoms had disappeared 24 hours after the first dose. 146 patients were then given single doses of mezlocillin intramuscularly (106 received 1 g, 40 received 2 g). The therapeutic results were confirmed by clinical and bacteriological examinations (urine culture, culture from swab exudate) after 96 hours and 30 days. The first control showed a cure rate of 100%. Thirteen of 133 patients had a reinfection at the second control. The mezlocillin infections were tolerated very well, both locally and generally.

151 Patienten mit akuter Gonorrhoe wurden in die Studie einbezogen. In 137 Fällen lag eine Urethritis vor, in sieben Fällen eine Vulvovaginitis, sechsmal eine Pharyngitis und in einem Fall eine Proktitis. Fünf Patienten erhielten zwei i. m. Injektionen von 1 g Mezlocillin im Abstand von 24 Stunden. 24 Stunden nach der ersten Dosis waren die klinischen Symptome verschwunden. Daraufhin wurden 146 Patienten mit Mezlocillin-Einzeldosen von 1 g (106 Patienten) oder 2 g (40 Patienten) Mezlocillin i. m. behandelt. Der Therapieerfolg wurde durch klinische und bakteriologische Kontrolluntersuchungen (Urinkultur, Abstrich vom Wundsekret) 96 Stunden und 30 Tage nach Mezlocillinbehandlung geprüft. Die erste Kontrolluntersuchung ergab eine Heilungsquote von 100%. Bei der zweiten Untersuchung hatten sich 13 von 133 Patienten erneut infiziert. Die lokale und allgemeine Verträglichkeit der Mezlocillininjektionen war sehr gut.
