Summary

The chemical composition and antigenic specificity of the cell wall lipopolysaccharides of the two main groups ofBacteroidaceae, Fusobacterium andBacteroides species, are reviewed. Cell wall lipopolysaccharides fromFusobacterium species contain 2-keto-3-deoxy-octonate and heptose, but lipopolysaccharides isolated fromBacteroides species do not.
