Zusammenfassung
Summary
1. Due to the antibacterial activity of cefoxitin against gram-negative enterobacteria and anaerobes, which are the most important and most frequently isolated organisms in infections of obstetric and gynaecological patients, favourable preconditions exist for the treatment of these infections.
2. According to published results, cefoxitin is an efficacious drug for the treatment of gynaecological and postpartum infections with a high clinical and bacteriological response.
3. Experience with the treatment of intrauterine infections during pregnancy and corresponding pharmacokinetic studies on transplacental passage are not yet available. On the basis of knowledge of the other cephalosporins already in use, a good clinical response and no serious side-effects are to be expected with cefoxitin.
