Summary

By means of the agar diffusion test the in vitro activity of cefotaxime against 123 strains ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was determined and compared with the two aminoglycosides gentamycin and tobramycin, the alpha-carboxypenicillin ticarcillin, and the two ureidopenicillins azlocillin and mezlocillin. It could be shown that cefotaxime was effective in vitro against 87% of the strains tested and can thus be placed between mezlocillin (84%) and ticarcillin (89%) on the list of antibiotics acting againstPseudomonas. Clinical investigation, which has hitherto been limited, must be intensified.
