Sedoanalgesia in urology: Technique, applications and impact

  • Published:
World Journal of Urology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Sedoanalgesia is a new technique as applied to urological surgery; it provides a safe, preferable and cost-effective alternative to general anaesthesia. Combining sedation (using midazolam) with adequate local anaesthesia, it renders patients amenable to an extensive range of procedures, both endoscopic and open. A wide margin of safety independent of patient age or level of fitness is achieved. Details of the technique as well as its applications and implications for urological practice are outlined.
