Summary

The wave pattern and the maximum amplitude of short-period P waves was investigated at epicentral distances between 9° and 25° for a set of shallow earthquakes. It was found that the time of occurrence of the maximum ratio A/T in the P-wave group varied substantially in the distance range between 10° and 11°, as well as between 12° and 14°, this phenomenon being significant for the magnitude determination from short-period P waves.
