Summary
Methemoglobin and some of its compounds have been studied as higly concentrated solutions at 90° K using electron spin resonance. Methemoglobin fluoride as a pure high spin complex showed an electron spin resonance spectrum with g factors of gI=6 and gII=2. Methemoglobin azid as pure low spin complex appears in the electron spin resonance spectrum as a well resolved line with 3 g factors of about 2. The methemoglobin compounds which are to be conceived as thermal mixtures of high and low spin complexes as well as the methemoglobin itself show in the electron spin resonance spectrum the corresponding high spin share with the g factor 6 and a broad line at g=2 for the low spin share.
