Summary
To produce an anti-placenta serum rabbits were immunized with placenta extract. With the anti-placenta rabbit serum three different placenta antigens could be demonstrated in the placenta extract. These placenta antigens were also found in the serum of pregnant women with normal and disturbed pregnancies, further more in urine of pregnant women, liquor amnii, umbilical blood as well as in ascites hydropic new borns.
According to their immunoelectrophoretic motility the placenta antigen fractions belong to the α2-macroglobulin-, the transferrin- and probably the praealbumin-group. The placenta antigens exert thermo-stability up to 56° C for a period of 15 minutes and a half-life period of 2 days. The question regarding the diagnosis of pregnancy must be examined by more sensitive immunosystems.
