Summary

The palaeomagnetic investigation of the sediments of the Suchdol Terrace of the River Vltava near Prague, which was used to determine the age of the terrace as 700 thousand years, has made this locality one of the principal reference points for dating the Inner Bohemian Quaternary System. The change in polarity of the Earth's magnetic field, observed in the sediments, indicates a continuity of the motion of the palaeomagnetic N pole from the region SW of Australia, across the Asian Continent, and into the region W of Greenland. This phenomenon seems to be accompanied by a slight increase in the intensity of the magnetic field at the very beginning of the reversal.
