Summary
The double axis neutron diffractometer used in connection with the Swiss reactor DIORIT is an instrument for either powder or single crystal operation. The pecision of the angular movements reaches 10 seconds of an arc. Positions are measured digitally, and a computer forms the two-to-one ratios in the case of single crystal operating mode.
The paper gives indications for optimal adjustments of the instrument for powder investigations, relative to the selection of the monochromator reflection planes and the contributions of higher order wavelengths.
A ratio for instrument-parameters is obtained from analyzing Nickel powder diffractograms and the results are compared with theoretical predictions.
