Abstract

Re-examination of a bounded shear flow proposed by Glauert is here completed by setting the plate off the centerline. The two remaining phenomena for general bounding, namely local circulation and asymmetry in the global circulation, are thereby exhibited. The former gives a leading-edge lift comparable to that of global circulation, while the latter produces as important a drag as the walls. A discussion of the second-order boundary layer is given, concentrating on the circulation component since its recent treatment is erroneous.
