Abstract
Recent experimental work at the AGS dealing with unusual nuclear excitations is summarized. Three examples are given: the deexcitation of A hypernuclei by γ transitions, the production of A hypernuclei by the (π+, K+) reaction, and the search for η-nuclear excitations. The status of each field and the implications of the research for nuclear theory are discussed.
