Asymmetry in angular distributions of Drell-Yan dimuons produced by antiproton-tungsten interactions at 125 GeV/c and partial coherence

Abstract

The recently published data on angular distributions of high mass dimuons produced in proton-tungsten interactions at 125 GeV/c are considered in the frame of the quantum statistical approach involving a mixture of coherent and stochastic production. Our analysis leads to the conclusion that a portion of the lepton pairs is produced coherently. A quite accurate description of the data specifying the asymmetric angular distributions requires a non-vanishing cubic term in cosine of the polar angle and a term with treble the azimuthal angle. This case can be achieved by an appropriate interplay of the parameters entering the approach which includes the partial coherency.
