Abstract
The non-linear distribution of lattice strainε 310vs sin2 Ω observed on the surface of a polished steel specimen can be interpreted by tri-axial stress state with surface components of stress tensorσ 11(0)=σ 22(0) and gradientsg 11=∂σ 11/∂T, g 33=∂σ 33/∂T. The distribution of experimental values\(\bar \varepsilon _\psi \) is duscussed from the viewpoint of various ways of calculatingσ 11.
